Somatic marker hypothesis breaks the reason Emotion dichotomy

Antonio Damasio suggests that emotion is not incompatible with reason. He argues that emotion is essential in reason, in that it provides useful heuristics driven by gut feelings which enable the reasoner to effectively navigate the problem space. In this view, prefrontal areas run “emotion experiments” based on gut feelings, which are then reported back and taken into consideration during planning and decision making.
